Winter in Durango has a different clock. The sun drops behind the ridges earlier, the river runs quieter, and a lot of us trade long trail days for ski days, school concerts, and dinners that run late. That shift is the whole reason winter is laser season at R Med+Spa.

If you have been waiting for a moment when your skin can heal without a full week of high-country sun on it, this is that moment. Laser season in Durango is less about a sale and more about the weather and the calendar lining up.

Less sun, easier healing

Durango sits high. A bluebird day in January can still find your face, especially on a chairlift or a noon walk downtown. Even so, most of us are simply outside less than we are in June. Sleeves are longer. Hats stay on. The patio lunch turns into something indoors.

Freshly treated skin wants that kind of ordinary shade. After a laser, the job is to keep new skin out of direct sun while it settles. Winter makes that habit easier to keep, because the day is already shorter and the plans are already indoors. We still want sunscreen and a hat. We just are not asking you to hide from a July afternoon on the Animas.

We wrote a Halo-specific version of this idea a while back, why fall and winter suit Halo. This post is the wider view: the season itself, and how to use it.

The holidays already have downtime built in

The other half of laser season is the calendar. Halo downtime is 5–10 days depending on the treatment. A lighter visit tends toward the shorter end. A more aggressive visit can need the longer end. Your skin moves that number too.

Holiday weeks are one of the few times a Durango schedule already has slack in it. People are off work, the kids are out of school, and nobody expects you at a trailhead at 7 a.m. That window is useful. You can be a little pink, a little peely, and still make the soup and the movie night.

If the party or the family photo is the thing you are protecting, read how to time Halo before holiday plans before you pick a date. The short version: count the full 5–10 days, then leave a buffer. Skin does not punch a clock.

The day-by-day picture, including bronzing and the peel, lives on our Halo downtime and results page. Use that page to plan the week. Use this one to decide the season.

What laser season looks like here

Halo is the hybrid fractional laser Dr. Brian Rike, DO performs. It improves pigmentation and sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles that are not deep, texture, tone, and smoothness, and it typically shrinks the look of pores. Halo starts at $1,500. The face package is $2,200, which pairs Halo with BBL HERO. Neck and chest is an add-on of $1,000. The figures, and what moves them, are on the Halo laser cost page.

BBL HERO is the light treatment for sun damage, pigment, and redness. A face visit is $550–$600. Dr. Rike performs BBL HERO. BBL HERO is as effective as BBL HEROic. It uses the same light energy, and the session just takes a little longer. What that visit looks like afterward is on BBL HERO results.

Andrea Rike does not perform Halo or the corrective BBL HERO visits. She performs BBL BARE and Forever Young BBL. If you are hoping for hair removal or a maintenance photofacial, say so when you book and we will put you with Andrea. If you want Halo or BBL HERO for sun damage, that visit is with Dr. Rike.

A season, not a deadline

There is no magic Tuesday in winter when the laser works better. October through the quieter months simply makes the aftercare easier to live with. If your only free week is a powder week you refuse to miss, tell us. We would rather move the date than watch you spend the downtime in a goggle line.

Summer sun care is its own topic. If you want that side of the year, the clinic's note on high-altitude sun and summer skin is the companion to this one.

Book the winter visit

Booking runs through Vagaro at vagaro.com/rmedspa, and you can start from our book page. A $25 deposit holds the appointment and applies toward a treatment or package. Call or text (970) 501-0610 if you would rather talk through the calendar first.

Bring the weeks you actually have. We will match Halo, BBL HERO, or a lighter plan to those weeks, the sun you really get, and the parties you refuse to miss.

Individual results vary. This post is general education, not a personal treatment plan.
