Halo Downtime and Results in Durango
Halo improves pigmentation and sun damage, fine lines and non-deep wrinkles, texture and tone, and smoothness, and it typically shrinks pores. Downtime is 5–10 days depending on treatment. Dr. Brian Rike, DO performs every Halo visit.
The short answer
Plan on 5–10 days. The peel is the visible part. The collagen work continues after it.
Halo is Sciton's hybrid fractional laser: 2940 nm ablative resurfacing and 1470 nm non-ablative heating in one visit. Dr. Brian Rike, DO performs it at R Med+Spa in Durango. Downtime is 5–10 days depending on treatment. Early days are redness and swelling. Bronzing and MENDs follow, then peeling. Results in tone, smoothness, and pore appearance show as that peel clears and keep changing over the following weeks. Halo from $1,500. The face package is $2,200.
What Halo treats
Halo is a resurfacing visit, not a color-only pass and not a deep full-field peel. These are the concerns it is used for here. Individual results vary, and Dr. Rike will tell you if your skin is asking for a different tool.
Pigmentation and sun damage
Brown spots, blotchy sun damage, and uneven color are a core reason people book Halo in Durango. Altitude makes that damage common.
Fine lines and non-deep wrinkles
Halo is aimed at fine lines and wrinkles that are not deep. Deep etched lines are a different depth conversation.
Texture and tone
Rough, dull, or uneven skin is what the hybrid pass is built to resurface and heat in the same visit.
Smoothness
As the treated skin sheds and new skin shows, the surface looks and feels smoother. That part is visible. It is not a promise of airbrushed skin.
Pores
Halo typically shrinks the look of pores. How much you notice depends on the settings and your skin.
If the lines are deep, or the scars are ice-pick, read the Halo vs Contour TRL depth ladder and the acne scar guide before you assume one Halo visit is the whole plan.

Downtime is 5–10 days, depending on the treatment
Halo downtime is 5–10 days depending on treatment. That range is a planning window, not a promise that you will be camera-ready on the morning of day 5. Settings, the area treated, and how your skin heals all move it. A lighter treatment tends to sit toward the shorter end. A more aggressive treatment can need closer to the full 10 days. Neck and chest skin can stay pink a little longer than the face when it is included.
You can usually be at home and out of the sun during that window. What you should not plan is a high-exposure week in the San Juans, a wedding, or a photo day inside the peel. Fall and winter in Durango make shade easier. Summer works if you are honest about SPF and hats. Freshly treated skin pigments more readily than the skin you walked in with, and our UV does not care that the air is cold.
A general day-by-day recovery outline
Redness, swelling, MENDs and bronzing, then peeling. The order is reliable. The exact morning each phase starts is not. Follow the written aftercare you leave with. Do not pick.
Treatment day
Skin looks red and feels warm, like a sunburn. Swelling can start the same day. You leave with written aftercare from Dr. Rike. The lines or spots you came in for usually do not look different yet.
Day 1
Redness and swelling are the main event. Skin can still feel hot. Keep it protected and moist the way your instructions say. This is not the day to judge the result.
Days 2–3
Bronzing shows up. MENDs, microscopic epidermal necrotic debris, look like tiny brown dots and can feel like sandpaper. That is treated tissue coming to the surface. It is expected, not a stain that failed to clear.
Days 3–7
Peeling. The bronzed MENDs flake. Do not pick, scratch, or pull them. New skin is underneath, and it is easier to irritate than the skin you walked in with. Swelling generally eases as the peel moves along. The exact days shift with the treatment.
About days 5–10
This is the downtime window. Downtime is 5–10 days depending on treatment. A lighter treatment tends toward the shorter end. A more aggressive treatment can need the longer end. Redness fades as peeling finishes. Plan shade for the whole range, not for a single guaranteed morning.
After the peel
Tone, smoothness, and the look of pores start to read as the result once the bronzing and peeling clear. The glow is often noticeable within a week and continues to improve over the following weeks as collagen remodels. We do not publish a day the result is finished.
When results show
The first thing you can see is the peel itself: bronzing, MENDs, then new skin. Pigment and sun damage often look clearer as those darkened dots shed. Texture, smoothness, and pore appearance start to read once the flake is gone, not on the afternoon you leave the office.
The glow is often noticeable within a week and continues to improve over the following month. Collagen from the 1470 nm pass keeps remodeling after the surface has calmed. On the Halo treatment page we describe that continued change over about 4–6 weeks. Some plans are one visit. Some are a lighter pass repeated later. Dr. Rike will say which shape fits. We do not publish a percentage of improvement or a day the result locks in.
Price sits next to the calendar. Halo from $1,500. The Halo face package is $2,200. Neck and chest is +$1,000. The Halo laser cost page explains what changes the number. A $25 booking deposit holds the consultation and applies toward treatment.
Durango aftercare that protects the result
We sit over a mile above sea level. Daily SPF, a hat, and shade are part of Halo, not an optional extra, including on bluebird winter days. Dry air pulls moisture out of healing skin, so a gentle cleanser and the ointment you are sent home with matter more than a new active. Skip acids, retinols, and extra actives until you are cleared. A boring barrier is a healing barrier.
Prep before the visit is the other half. Our Halo preparation guide covers what to stop, and the Halo recovery article is the longer read if you want it before you book a week off.

Questions we hear about downtime and results
How long is Halo downtime?
Plan on 5–10 days, depending on the treatment. Lighter settings tend toward the shorter end of that window. More aggressive settings can need the longer end. Your skin and your healing move the calendar too. Dr. Brian Rike, DO matches depth to the week you actually have.
What does Halo recovery look like day by day?
Treatment day and day 1 are redness, warmth, and swelling, like a sunburn. Around days 2–3, bronzing and MENDs (tiny brown dots, sometimes a sandpaper feel) show up. Peeling follows, often across days 3–7, as those dots flake. Do not pick. The social downtime window is about 5–10 days depending on treatment. This is a general outline, not a promise that your skin will change on a specific morning.
What does Halo treat?
Halo improves pigmentation and sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles that are not deep, texture and tone, and smoothness. It typically shrinks the look of pores. It is a hybrid fractional laser, 2940 nm ablative and 1470 nm non-ablative, performed by Dr. Brian Rike, DO. Deep lines and deep scarring can need a different depth. That is a consultation decision, not a menu guess.
When do Halo results show?
The surface change shows as bronzing and peeling finish and new skin is visible. Many people notice the glow within a week, with tone and smoothness continuing to improve over the following weeks. Collagen remodeling keeps going after the peel is over. Results continue to improve over the following month, and the treatment page describes that remodeling over about 4–6 weeks. Individual results vary. We do not publish a guaranteed finish date.
