Sciton BroadBand Light hair removal, compared directly
Laser Hair Removal Durango: BBL BARE vs Traditional Laser
BBL BARE is Sciton BroadBand Light hair removal on the BBL HERO platform, performed by Andrea Rike at R Med+Spa in Durango. BBL BARE from $150. Here is how comfort, speed, skin types, and sessions compare with a traditional single-wavelength laser.
The short answer
Laser hair removal in Durango, here, is BBL BARE from $150. We do not sell a diode or Alexandrite series.
If you searched laser hair removal Durango, you are comparing ways to reduce hair with light. BBL BARE sends broadband light in a moving pass, with sapphire cooling in the handpiece. A traditional laser hair removal device concentrates one wavelength on the follicle. Both approaches need a series, because hair grows in cycles. Andrea Rike performs BBL BARE. If you specifically want Soprano, Splendor X, or another diode or Alexandrite platform, book it where it is offered. Those are established devices, and we are not going to invent their prices or their session counts.
BBL BARE vs traditional laser, side by side
Facts about traditional laser hair removal are general. Pricing and protocols for devices we do not own stay with the clinics that use them.
| Feature | BBL BARE (offered here) | Traditional laser (not offered here) |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Sciton BroadBand Light hair removal on the BBL HERO platform. We call the visit BBL BARE. Offered here. | A single-wavelength laser, often diode, Alexandrite, or Nd:YAG. Not offered here. |
| Comfort | A warm snap, like a rubber band, while the sapphire tip in the handpiece cools the skin. | Often described as a sharper snap from one concentrated wavelength. Cooling depends on that device. |
| Speed | A moving pass of broadband light. Larger maps, such as legs or back, can be treated in one appointment. | Often pulse by pulse at one wavelength. Some clinics also use a moving technique. Timing is theirs to quote. |
| Skin and hair fit | Best when hair is darker than the skin. Weak on blonde, red, white, or very fine hair. | Also depends on hair pigment and skin tone. The wavelength and the clinic's protocol decide the fit. |
| Sessions | A typical series is 6 to 8 visits. Body areas are usually 4 to 6 weeks apart. Facial hair is usually 3 to 4 weeks apart. | Also a series, because hair grows in cycles. We do not publish another clinic's session count. |
| Price here | BBL BARE from $150 per session. Area size changes the price. | Not sold here. Quoted by the clinic that offers that device. |
| Who treats you | Andrea Rike, a Sciton-trained specialist, in a physician-led practice. | Whoever that clinic assigns to the handpiece. |
| Downtime | Minimal for most people. Redness or mild swelling can last a few hours. | Often short, and set by that device and those settings. We do not guess it. |
Comfort
You shave first. Andrea checks the skin and the hair, sets the BBL HERO handpiece for that area, and works in passes. Most people feel a warm snap, like a rubber band, while the sapphire tip cools. Eye protection goes on for facial work. You leave the same day. Redness or mild swelling can last a few hours, not a recovery weekend.
A traditional laser concentrates one wavelength on the follicle per pulse. That hit can feel sharper, because the energy is not spread across a band of light. Some of those devices cool aggressively too. Neither description is a score. The area matters: an upper lip and a full leg are not the same sensation on any platform. We can tell you what our handpiece feels like. We will not rank someone else's.
Speed
BBL BARE delivers intense broadband light in a moving pass. That is why legs, back, and other large maps can still be treated in one appointment, and why a small area such as the underarms finishes quicker. The speed comes from the glide and the spot the handpiece covers, not from skipping the follicle.
Traditional laser hair removal is often a series of concentrated pulses. Covering a large area pulse by pulse takes longer, unless that clinic uses its own moving technique. We do not publish a treatment-time chart for those devices. If a short appointment on a big area is the point of the search, say so when you book and Andrea can tell you whether that map fits one BBL BARE visit.
Skin types and hair color
Light-based hair removal, BBL BARE included, follows pigment. Melanin in the hair shaft and follicle absorbs the energy, heat disables the follicle, and the surrounding skin is spared as much as the physics and the settings allow. Darker hair on lighter skin is the strongest match. Blonde, red, white, and very fine hair do not hold enough pigment for a reliable result. Andrea will say that in the consult.
Traditional platforms split the same problem across wavelengths. A diode, an Alexandrite laser, and an Nd:YAG laser are not interchangeable, and a clinic that owns one of them sets its own skin-tone rules. We do not offer those devices, and we do not publish a borrowed Fitzpatrick chart for them. Darker skin still needs a careful conversation here. A fresh tan is a reason to wait on any of these treatments, because the light cannot tell a tan from a target.
Areas we map with BBL BARE include the face (upper lip, chin, and sideburns when the hair and skin match), underarms, arms, bikini line, legs, and back, chest, or stomach. Brazilian is not offered.
Sessions
Hair is not all growing on the same day. Follicles cycle, and a visit can only treat the hairs that are in the right phase with the root still attached. That is true for BBL BARE and for traditional laser hair removal. One session is not a finished result on either device.
A typical BBL BARE series is 6 to 8 sessions. Body areas are usually spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Facial hair is usually spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart. Shave the area about 24 hours before you arrive. Do not wax, thread, or pluck between visits, or the follicle is gone and the light has nothing to heat. Avoid sun and self-tanner on the area before a session. After treatment, treated hair often sheds over 1 to 3 weeks. Let it fall. That shed is the follicle finishing the job.
We will not tell you that another clinic's laser uses the same spacing. Ask them. If an 8-visit calendar does not fit your life, we would rather say so before you buy the series.
Price
BBL BARE from $150 per session. Area size changes the price. Underarms are not priced like full legs. The price list is where the current figure lives. This page does not invent package tiers.
Traditional laser hair removal prices are quoted by the clinics that offer those devices. We do not publish them, for the same reason we would not want our number guessed. Compare a published figure with a published figure.
Who treats you
Andrea Rike performs laser hair removal (BBL BARE). She is a Sciton-trained specialist. Dr. Brian Rike, DO, is medical director of a physician-led practice, which means candidacy and the device menu sit under a physician. It does not mean he stands behind every hair-removal pulse. See who performs each laser for the longer split. He performs Halo and most BBL HERO treatments. She also performs BBL step 3, mainly the 640 nm Forever Young filter, along with Clear Silk and Glacial Rx.
A decision guide
- Choose BBL BARE when the hair is dark enough to target, you want the moving pass and sapphire cooling, and a 6 to 8 visit series fits the calendar. BBL BARE from $150.
- Choose a traditional laser clinic when you already know you want a specific diode or Alexandrite device. Book it there. We will not rebrand BBL BARE as that laser.
- Choose neither yet when the hair is blonde, red, white, or too fine to hold pigment, or when the skin is freshly tanned. A series that cannot see the follicle is not a bargain.
BBL HERO for sun spots and redness is a different visit. If pigment is the complaint and hair is not, start with BBL HERO.
Questions we hear on this comparison
Is BBL BARE the same as laser hair removal?
People searching laser hair removal Durango are usually looking for permanent hair reduction with light. BBL BARE is Sciton's hair-reduction treatment on the BBL HERO platform. It uses broadband light, not a single laser wavelength, to disable pigmented follicles. We describe the result as permanent hair reduction, not a promise that every hair is gone forever.
Which is more comfortable, BBL BARE or traditional laser hair removal?
In our room, most people feel a warm snap, like a rubber band, while the sapphire tip cools the skin. A traditional laser concentrates one wavelength in each pulse, and clinics that offer those devices often describe a sharper snap. Comfort still depends on the area, the settings, and the cooling that handpiece actually has. We will not publish a pain score for a device we do not use.
Is BBL BARE faster than laser hair removal?
BBL BARE is built as a moving pass, which is why larger areas can be covered in one appointment and smaller maps finish quicker. A spot-by-spot single-wavelength laser can take longer on a big area, and some of those devices also glide. We do not put a minute count on a platform we do not own.
What skin types and hair colors are a match?
BBL BARE works best on darker hair against lighter skin, because it targets melanin in the follicle. It is weak on blonde, red, white, or very fine hair. Andrea Rike will say so in the consult rather than sell a series that cannot work. Traditional laser platforms have their own limits by wavelength and protocol. Darker skin needs a careful settings conversation on any light-based hair removal device, including ours.
How many sessions does laser hair removal take?
Hair grows in cycles, so one visit cannot catch every follicle on BBL BARE or on a traditional laser. A typical BBL BARE series is 6 to 8 sessions. Body areas are usually spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Facial hair is usually spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart. Shave before you come, and do not wax, thread, or pluck between visits. We do not publish a session count for diode or Alexandrite series at other clinics.
How much does laser hair removal cost in Durango?
BBL BARE from $150 per session. Price varies by area. Current figures live on our price list. We do not publish per-zone package prices on this page, and we do not publish prices for Soprano, Splendor X, or other diode or Alexandrite platforms, because we do not offer them.
Who performs BBL BARE at R Med+Spa?
Andrea Rike performs laser hair removal (BBL BARE). R Med+Spa is a physician-led practice under Dr. Brian Rike, DO. He does not fire every hair-removal pulse. Candidacy and the device menu sit under that medical direction. New patients can book the visit directly. Consultations for other aesthetic plans use a $25 deposit that holds the appointment and applies toward a treatment or package.
